The Rotary Club of Fredericton Sunrise (also known as the "Fredericton Sunrise Rotary Club") received its charter from Rotary International on September 22, 1992 and at the Charter Dinner thirty-seven new Rotarians where inducted.

Our Rotary Club Banner combines the elements of our City reflecting its nature and heritage. The “sun rises” over the City of Stately Elms, the Saint John River and the spires of the Cathedral, the Provincial Legislative Assembly and Fredericton City Hall.

Members of the Sunrise Club strive to live by the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” and to follow the “Four Way Test." Like all Rotarians our members have been active in the community and internationally and to focus on programs and projects which benefit the disadvantaged and youth.

In 1995 the club embarked on its first major sponsorship by supporting “Partners For Youth,” an at risk youth program, and we have provided over $350,000 in financial and organizational support for their programs.

Each year since 1994 the club takes part in the Fredericton High School “Safe Grad” party and our members provide food for all the graduates and their guests. We are a major supporter of the Fredericton Food Bank and have provided support in many ways – food drives, Christmas Hamper packing and delivery, building improvements and financially.

Other groups to which we have provided major support include, Camp Rotary, Fredericton Boys and Girls Clubs, Fredericton Emergency Shelter and, Junior Achievement. To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the founding of Rotary we joined with our sister club, the Rotary Club of Fredericton North, to build the Rotary Lodge at Killarney Lake – our gift to the citizens of Fredericton.

Internationally, our support has been mostly centred on youth. Projects have been supported for rebuilding and equipping schools in Kenya South Africa and Peru, orphanages for orphans of AIDS in South Africa, potable water for villages in Peru and providing blankets for seniors and children. We are strong supporters of the Rotary Student Exchange program and have hosted students for New Zealand, Norway, Mexico, Belgium, Japan, Thailand, Argentina, Austria, Switzerland, Venezuela and India. The Sunrise Club has sponsored students from the local area who have spent a high school year in Germany, Austria, South Africa, France, Argentina, Sweden, Switzerland and New Caledonia.

A milestone for the Club occurred in the fall of 1994 when “Sunrise Rotary Bingo” took to the air on the Community TV Channel, now Rogers Cable 10. TV Bingo continues to be our main fundraising activity. All funds raised, after payment of expenses and prizes, is used for Community and Rotary charitable causes here in the local area and internationally. Since it’s inauguration in 1994 we have returned over $1.5 million to the community as prizes and $700,000 in donations mainly for youth oriented causes.
