What to Bring

Mountie and GirlGoing to the Skydome was the best. Everyone was cheering and yelling for the teams and we didn't even know the rules! - Marrit S. 2004 (Holland)

LUGGAGE:

ONE medium sized suitcase with WHEELS (approx 26" x 19" x 8') and one Carry-On Bag / back-pack. No other hand luggage (i.e. laptop computers etc. – everything in your suitcase!)

REMEMBER…. YOU HAVE TO CARRY THEM! AND THE CARRY-ON BAG MUST FIT UNDER THE SEAT IN THE VAN. No oversized hockey bags! The kids flying directly home from Vancouver or Toronto/Montreal can bring an extra suitcase and we will make arrangements to ship it and store it.

CLOTHING:

DRESS-UP CLOTHING (we go... fancy  2-3 times)

WOMEN - dress pants/skirt/shorts, dress shoes or sandals
MEN - dress pants/shorts, shoes (not sneakers!) or sandals

We ask that you do not wear jeans or cut-offs when we are guests at Rotary Meetings, or any nights out.

EVERYONE - two pairs of light weight jeans/pants ( takes a long time and a lot of $$ to dry after washing)
TOPS OR SHIRTS for travelling
ONE SWEATER/SWEATSHIRT AND LIGHT JACKET (The mountains can be cold!)
TWO PAIR OF SHORTS or light clothing
ONE BATHING SUIT - most pools require proper suits and do not allow shorts, t-shirts etc. (we will have at least 3 - 4 opportunities to swim so don=t forget one)
Six SETS UNDERCLOTHING - we always have easy access to washing machine facilities but you need a few pairs as you don’t want to do laundry every other night!
ONE PAIR OF SNEAKERS or comfortable walking shoes for hiking in the mountains
ONE PAIR OF SANDALS if you wish

Bring sufficient everyday clothing but keep it to a minimum. Remember, you=ll likely be returning with more than you take.

TOILETRIES

tooth-brush and toothpaste
soap, comb, shampoo
shaving gear
deodorant
face cloth
(washer) and towel for hostels and train
needle and thread and safety pins
cosmetics as desired
SUNSCREEN AND HAT and Bug spray

MISCELLANEOUS:

A LOCK and a small flashlight for use at hostels.

Your Passport or Government issued Photo I.D. for the airplane.

CAMERA & FILM

NOTEBOOK/DIARY/PENS/STAMPS - remember, we have several “Thank you” notes to write. Postcards of your homeland are great for this purpose. If you have a souvenir of your homeland that you would like to give to your host billets it would be much appreciated (you will need 4 … Moncton/Edmonton/Calgary/Salt Spring Island). If not, a simple thank you note would be sufficient.

Pack of cards or small games for use on trains. Hand video games can be used on the trains but not on the air flight. Walkman, tapes and CD's. (do not bring speakers as you won’t be allowed to use them) Mike will bring a guitar. Laundry soap in “packets” are a good idea… bring enough for the tour!

PILLOW: A small inflatable one is very useful for sleeping comfort in coach seats on the train.

TOWEL: A bath or beach size towel can also be used as a blanket!

Blankets and pillows are usually provided on VIA from Moncton to Charny (Quebec City) Toronto to Edmonton and, Jasper into Vancouver. We sometimes get them ... sometimes not!
